ABOUT FIFTY POSTERS IN, I ROLL INTO A 7-ELEVEN near this block notorious for its squat houses and raging parties. I grab another master cylinder of PBR and a spicy beef stick, and when I walk outside, I sit down on the ground next to a pay phone to take a break and eat, and just fucking relax for a second.

It feels kinda weird to be so on top of shit. Or seemingly on top of it, I fucking guess. But it’s a nice feeling. To be honest, I haven’t really felt this fucking great in a while, maybe ever (but for real), and it’s pretty cool, ya know. Pretty fucking rad. The excitement about the show really starts to sinks its teeth into me and gnaw away. How, in a few hours, I’m gonna be shredding on a bill with Thee Oh Sees and Lamborghini Dreams. How I’m gonna be backstage with my favorite author ever, doing drugs, getting thrashed, winning like a motherfucker.

Shit, on one hand it’s kind of a shame I have a steady girlfriend because it’s gonna be, like, pussy heaven tonight. Girls everywhere. Total babes. Fucking throwing themselves at me and shit. Trying to be a part of the scene. Trying to get all backstage and hang with the bands so that they can tell everyone about it on Facebook and Twitter and Tumblr and tag themselves in a bunch of photos.

The Motel Cinema Studio is the only place to be tonight in Beaver Falls. There, and then at the after-hours party, wherever the hell that’s gonna be. This probably might be the show of the year, and my goddamn band is opening it.

Huge smiles.

My body gets a little shaky as I envision the scene.

Glorious.

Sweaty.

Chaotic.

Hugs and high fives everywhere.

Unicorn Kingdom times twenty.

Basically, the best shit ever—other than when I’m thrashing Patti at sunrise and falling asleep next to her and having her in my arms when we wake up, smile at each other, and start kissing and fuck again.

Back on my feet now, I roll down a block, to this house where there are, like, ten kids squatting, so I tape a poster to the light pole in front of it. There’s two girls, Miranda and Amanda, pretty hot girls, and this dude Miles sitting on the sidewalk by the light pole.

Miles is a fucking dick. He played with us for a hot minute. Rhythm guitar. Until I kicked him out for talking some mad shit on me to the rest of the band. Like how he thought he was so much better of a musician than me, how he could write circles around my songs, and how I was dragging the band down and couldn’t sing and didn’t have any stage presence.

All bullshit.

Also, he tried to bang Nicole before either me or her ever cheated on each other. She told me about it, he lied about it, and I brought up that and the other stuff at a practice and he threw a punch but it missed.
